You can find blue and white chinoiserie style pillows and pillow covers on eBay that you cannot find anywhere else. This set was made for the Lilian Vernon company. They are a retired style.

What’s not to love? The chinoiserie china fills the space, surrounded by a lattice border in shades of blue. The needlepoint is fine, with close stitches.

Both pillows feature traditional Chinese porcelain.

This retired pillow from eBay has a blue background that really highlights the blue and white china.

You can find some Blue and White and Chinoiserie style home goods in Lillian Vernon’s Amazon Store. If you see what you like, don’t wait. Inventory changes regularly and when it’s gone, it’s gone. You get a second chance when they are listed on eBay.

Sweater Shaver

These pillows are in excellent condition, but don’t be afraid to order some that are less expensive in less-than-desired condition. You can almost always get stains out. Pillow inserts can be replaced. It’s easy if there is a zipper, or pick out the stitches and then hand stitch them back up. You might be able to see where the stitching was finished if you look closely enough. If the pillow is a little pilly, use a sweater shaver to make it look new again. A thin crochet hook can push through to catch and pull back in any loose needlepoint.

Lilian Vernon

The Lilian Vernon company has been around since 1951. The founder, Lillian Menasche, was only 24 years old when she started the company in Mount Vernon, New York. She sold monogrammed leather goods direct, first through magazine advertisements, then by catalog as her line expanded. When Lilian Vernon went public in 1987, it was the first female-founded company on the American Stock Exchange. The company is no longer in family hands since Lillian Menasche died in 2003.

I don’t remember a time before I leafed through Lilian Vernon catalogs in waiting rooms. They had nearly as much to choose from as the Sears catalog.

Now you can find her products on Amazon. And you can still have them personalized.
