Hanging ornaments don’t have to be seasonal. You can hang them year round. Hang one on the wall as a tiny piece of art. Hang one on a cabinet door handle. Suspend them instead of a pull on a blind or ceiling fan.

Are Kurt Adler and Jonathan Adler Related?

Are Kurt Adler and Jonathan Adler Related?

Are Kurt Adler and Jonathan Adler related? Evidently I’m not the only person to wonder, since Google finished the sentence when I started it.

Kurt Adler and Jonathan Adler both make ornaments and have the same last name. As far as I can tell, that’s pretty much it.

They are both Jewish. But it is not a really rare last name. There are 16,412 people in the United States with the last name Adler. 23andMe says 41.4% of people with the last name Adler are Ashkenazi Jewish. They might be distantly related. Other than the last name, there are no other names in common. They were not in the same place. Kurt Adler’s business was established and successful before Jonathan Adler was born.

Kurt Adler was born in Würzburg, Germany in 1921. He moved to Mahattan when he was 13. His sister is Hilda Schwartz. His children are Howard, Richard and Karen.

Jonathan Adler was born in New Jersey in 1966. His parents’ names are Harry and Cynthia. He grew up in Bridgeton, New Jersey.

Kurt Adler started exporting products from the US after the Second World War in 1946. He soon turned to importing and by the 1950s was importing ornamental items. Kurt S. Adler Inc. is “the leading designer, importer and distributor of holiday decorations. With headquarters in New York City and a state of the art distribution center…”

Jonathan Adler began as a potter. He “launched his first ceramic collection in 1993 at Barneys New York.”  He expanded into interior decoration and has written at least four books. He has 17 stores and his products are sold in other stores as well.

Kurt Adler died in 2004. Jonathan Adler is still alive.
